The Institute for African Pumzikio and Exploration (iAPE, for short) is an informal organization of interested scientists, master gunsmiths, historians, geographers and hunter/gatherers. Our objective is to create a forum for open discussion of anything we want to talk about regarding Africa.

Pumzikio is a Swahili word referring to a place of relaxation or recreation. For example, people might find a forum for discussing Africa a pumzikio.

iAPE is a loose society with only a few rules (subject to change and to be applied retroactively):

  1. Beer (or other spirituous pleasurables) should be consumed at each meeting and during all presentations.
  2. Strange "huts" are encouraged.
  3. No Djibouti or Djiboutisms.
  4. Do no "harm."
  5. The rest is just sort of common sense (e.g., don't throw hedgehogs at balloon parties).
